Final Feature Story reflection

So far in my final feature story I have interviewed three people. The director of French studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Lauren Goodspeed, and the director of Italian studies at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Carlotta Dradi. I have also interviewed one student, who speaks Italian and is from Italy. She spoke about challenges she has faced when learning English. I am not sure if I will use her interview. I am still wanting to talk to at least two more students. My interviews with Goodspeed and Dradi have been very helpful. 

I am having a setback with navigating the student tutor website, and am having a hard time figuring out how to contact student tutors for foreign language classes. The previous tutors I wanted to interview are tutors through a new program so they will not be able to speak on what changes they have seen in students pre-pandemic versus post-pandemic, which is what I am needing right now for my story. Next week I will find a tutor to interview, and I will interview one student. I also will start looking for a non-human source to use.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the wife of Joaqin Guzmán “El Chapo”, pled guilty to helping her husband run his drug empire. Coronel Aispuro, 32, had no criminal record, and was not involved in violence which helped lower her term, according to NPR .  Her husband, Guzmán, is currently serving a life sentence in Colorado, according to BBC . He is 64.  Coronel Aispuro originally faced 10 year in prison. She expressed “true regret for any and all harm” through a Spanish translator in court, according to NPR.  Previously, Coronel Aispuro helped Guzmán escape from a Mexican prison in 2015. Coronel Aispuro also pled guilty to federal offenses during a plea deal with federal prosecutors, according to NPR.  In court on Tuesday, Judge Rudolph Contreras also ordered Coronel Aispuro to forfeit about $1.5 million, according to BBC. Parents have sued a school district in Wisconsin because of its policy on gender transitioning students

  By: Madison Maronde Parents have sued a school district in Wisconsin because of its policy on gender transitioning students, according to NBC news. The Kettle Moraine School District in Waukesha, Wisconsin is facing a lawsuit by parents over a district policy which allows students to change their names and gender pronouns at school without parental consent, according to NBC news. The policy allows for students who are minors to change their pronouns at school. Parents claim this policy violates their constitutional rights as parents, according to NBC news. Two sets of parents filed the lawsuit Wednesday and according to The Wisconsin State Journal , some Madison school districts are facing similar litigation. According to The Wisconsin State Journal, parents at the Madison School District are suing due to a policy in the schools, that allows transitioning transgender students to not have to notify parents of this transition. A U.S. submarine collided with an unidentified object

By: Madison Maronde   A U.S submarine collided with an unidentified object in the South China Sea on Saturday, according to an article by BBC. Fifteen sailors were injured after the USS Connecticut submarine collided with a mystery object underwater. The submarine is now headed toward a U.S. territory in Guam according to an article by CNN. The collision occurred amidst tensions between the U.S. and China following China sending aircrafts into Taiwan’s air force defense zone, according to an article by BBC. The Connecticut was operating following an array of military force in the region by U.S. allies according to an article by CNN. These military forces include the UK, Japan, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands.  Taiwan announced on Wednesday that China could invade Taiwan by 2025. There are currently U.S troops in Taiwan. U.S. troops have been there since 2018 and this relationship is guided by the Taiwan Defense Act according to an article by CNN.
