COVID-19 cases in Minnesota are at their highest levels of the year

Hospitals in Minnesota are struggling as positive COVID-19 cases spike, according to an article by The New York Times. 


Minnesota’s positive COVID rates are at their highest levels since 2020. According to an article by KSTP Eyewitness News, the weekly rate for positive COVID cases in Minnesota is now at 8.4%, and hospitals are overwhelmed. 


According to an article by The New York Times, 96% of I.C.U. beds in Minnesota are now in use, and there is a shortage of hospital workers. The article explained there are now fewer workers, due to burnout over dealing with the pandemic for the last 18 months.


Dr. Jonathon Shultz, an emergency medicine physician, is calling the current situation an epidemic of the unvaccinated, according to an article by KSTP Eyewitness News. 


The current COVID cases are also affecting younger unvaccinated people severely, according to an article by KSTP Eyewitness News. The article quotes Dr. Christina Bastin de Jong, a critical care physician with Essentia Health, who is seeing younger and unvaccinated people with COVID on life support machines. 


To help make a difference with COVID cases in Minnesota, it is suggested to wear a mask indoors, avoid large crowds, social distance, get tested when necessary, and stay home if you are sick, according to an article by KSTP Eyewitness News.
